I now have the ends connected: it appears that William Mason bn c 1838 was the son of Martha Mason and quite probably the son of her future husband William Goode.

This means a great deal to me - thank you so much for you help

I am looking at 2 Mason families which I believe may be connected but at the moment I can't quite see how:

1. Martha MASON bapt Upton Bishop 1821 married William GOODE Upton Bishop 1841, she was the illegitimate daughter of Sarah MASON and seems to have been known as Martha WILLIS at times. I'm unsure whether Sarah was the daughter of John MASON and Elizabeth WELLING bapt Upton Bishop 1781 - she seems a bit old and may have married c1808.

2. William MASON gives his place of birth as Upton Bishop or Weston under Penyard at different times. He married Ann BIRD in 1865 and baptised children in Peterstow and Weston under Penyard from 1867-1880 (George William, William Thomas, Alfred Thomas, Albert, Henry, Sidney, Oliver).

Were Martha and William related and if so how?

Would love to exchange information with anyone researching these families.
