Caerphilly (reply)

Thanks Tony. From what I am told the Thomas's always resided in Edge End (Hedge End, Hawthorns) so it's understandable that the family would have Thomas buried at Christchurch. No word yet from the lady in Edge End where Elizabeth (nee Maddox) Thomas Powell died or where she is buried.

Caerphilly (reply)

Ellie

The Coal Mining History Resource Centre has a very good site http://www.cmhrc.co.uk/site/home/ which includes a national database of mining deaths in the UK. It's well worth a look.

As you know, I have a (Maddox) interest with this Thomas Thomas. I've already searched but haven't found any connection with Thomas' death. It appears he died in Caerphilly but was buried in the Forest of Dean.

The closest to the town was probably :-
Rhos Llantwit
nr. Caaerphilly, Glampganshire
Rhos Llanwit Coal Co.

http://www.welshcoalmines.co.uk/

During the 19th century Caerphilly became a mining town and was also a centre for a local cheese-making industry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caerphilly

Remember I am from the Washington

Its a Global village now :-) Auckland, Washington, Boise, Perth you are still welcome !
