Thomas BENNETT - abt 1849 - Holly Hall Staffordshire (living in Dudley Worcestershire)
Jan BOWCOTT - abt 1835 - Holly Hall (living in Dudley Worcestershire)
Enock Brockhouse - abt 1857 - Holly Hall, Staffordshire, living in Wombwell, Yorkshire
Dudley is where Marianne COOK husband William COOK was from.

Bridge Street, Newent
Mary Ann COOK, Wife, Mar, 29, Wife of coal and timber merchant, b Stafford, Holly Hall.
Comfort LEWIS, Visitor, Un, ??, , b. Glos. Newent

If this is her William COOK is evidently absent on Census night.

Edward COOK/Sarah + Susannah WRIGHT (reply)

Using the Advance Search, Edward (Coal Merchant of Newent) and Susan - had the following children

Elizabeth - 1834
Samuel William - 1836
John - 1837
Emily Jane - 1843

and Gloucestershirebdm

http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/

1843 - COOK Emily - mother's maiden name WRIGHT - Newent

----

If you look at the 1841 census, there is a Sarah aged 14 on the 1841 census and Marianne - age 20 - also on the 1851, Susan COOK age 45 - says she was born in Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire - and on the Church of Latter Day Saints - Susannah WRIGHT was christened at Cleobury Mortimer - 8 November 1807 - parents William & Mary WRIGHT

By using the Advance Search:

In the Town of Newent, Edward (Coal Merchant) & Sarah - had the following children…..

1824 - Marianne *** 21 March 1820
1824 - Benjamin - born 19 January 1823 (buried 30 March 1828 aged 5)
1824 - Catharine
1827 - Sarah
18 May 1829 - Edward - parents Edward (Coal Merchant & Sarah - Newent ) - Glos Baptism Index
1831 - Jane (buried 29 June 1837 age 6)

**** Memoranda: Received into church having been born 4 Jan 1820 and baptized in Soudley, Worcestershire daughter of

So Susannah could be his second marriage - and think this could possibly be Sarah COOK's burial at Newent - 4 May 1833

Sarah COOK - age 32 years (c1801) - residence: Town of Newent

?

Ancestry:

Marriage at Westbury on Trym Gloucester - 24 May 1821

Edward COOKE and Sarah PHIPPS

---

----

On Genesreunited/British Newspapers on line - a brief glimpse - Hereford & Local News

St Nicholas Church, Gloucester - 13 May 1846 (married 28 April 1846)

William COOK, Timber Merchant, Dudley to Marianne COOK - eldest daughter of Edward COOK, Coal & Timber Merchant Newent

Edward Cook (reply)

I don’t know how much you have already but this is readily available:-

Pigot’s Directory 1830 Newent, COOK Edward, Coal Dealer.

1841 Census, Bridge Street, Newent,

Edward COOK, Head, 50, Coal Merchant, not born in county.
Susannah, Wife, 36, not born in county.
Marianne, 20, not born in county.
Sarah, 14, born in county
Edward, 12, born in county
Elizabeth, 6, born in county
John, 3, born in county
William, 19, manservant, not born in county
Thomas DAW(?), 23, manservant, born in county.

1851 Census, Bridge Street, Newent

Susan COOK, Head, 45, Widow, born Shropshire, Cleobury Mortimer
John, Son, 13, born Glos. Newent.
James CHILD, Mar, 22, born Glos. Newent
Mary Ann CHILD, Wife, born Gloucester, St James.

1861 Census, Culver Street, Newent.

Mary JAMES, Head, Widow, 65, born, Glos. Newent
Matilda, Daur, 26, born Glos. Newent
Henry, Grandson, 16, born Glos. Newent
Susan COOK, Nurse, Widow, 55, born Shropshire, Cleobury Mortimer

I can’t track a marriage for Edward and Susannah (Susan) but it must have been outside the Forest area (if, indeed, there was actually a marriage).

The baptisms of Sarah, Edward, Elizabeth and John are recorded on this site. In the case of the first two the mother is recorded as Sarah.
