Hi "sanderson" sorry i missed this post have not been on in a while, unfortunately my gran Kate turley passed in August 07. Before that i did visit and worked out a few homes with her, such as Samuel turley(1883) and his grandfather william (1836)both on blakeney hill.
Locating ancestors residence Blakeney Hill (reply)

Hi. I hope Kate is still well. If so say hi. I have been trying to link all the families since coming home as they seem to have the thread of Thomas and Ann ( Nancy), with possible brother edward.
I am trying to locate the House of John and Ann (nee phillips) Turley. Their daughter Louisa Margaret married just after their deaths in 1901 to Blewett. All the rest of the family had moved to Stroud / Brighton etc.

I would appreciate an idea of where to find the house, I have tried on google earth to work out which house though it does zoom in as well in the Blakeney area as it does in other locations. Where do you come in on the Turley family - as I was in contact with the Turley / Screen family

Locating ancestors residence Blakeney Hill (reply)

Hi.I visited England last year and met with Audrey Turley as they are distant relatives. Ivor Turley died a number of years ago but I write to him back in the late 1980's. We share Thomas and Nancy Turley from Blakeney Hill, He has Screen and Turley connections. I also visited Kate Turley on the Hill. This family are recorded on Blakeney Hill from 1841 to 1901 when the last member of my family Louisa Margaret Turley Married Blewett.

Pity it's 1901 at latest. There was a Finance Act 1910. Duties on Land Values. Large scale 1901 OS Maps were used and all houses and land were numbered. Together with this were lists of occupiers and owners to match. They're not at GCR or the Library at Gloucester. They're in another building. Can't remember where in Gloucester as so many years since I've been there. Might be worth looking though, if descendants/relatives took over property.

Locating ancestors (reply)

The only help I can offer is - go back to the census book / images and look around your entry for "landmarks " such as Public House / Inn and "uninhabited Chapel". If you are lucky and find these you may be able to interpret the direction / sense of the Census enumerators trail < enhancing the info on teh "index" page to that specific census book>, from that and an old map you may be lucky and deduce where they lived . If not you 'll gain a better insight into the area !
