Thomas Grindle 1850/William Grindle (reply)

Hi Scott
I know you posted this 3 years ago but I just did a search on William Grindle and this popped up. George Grindle was my great great grandfather and William my great great great grandfather. Ann Mason was my great great great grandmother. I have a letter written by her to her son, George toward the end of her life and the start of WW1. George was in the US, and she still in Wales. I've scanned it and posted it on Ancestry. I will be happy to email it to you so that you can see it. It is signed, Ann Mason. Our family has held on to it for almost 100 years. It's really amazing/sad. I hope that you are able to check this reply or hopefully a notification is made to your email. I also have a picture of George Grindle's grave.
Tracy
Granddaughter of Phyllis Grindle(married name Cashon), great granddaughter of Harry Grindle, great great granddaughter of George Grindle, and great great great granddaugher of William Grindle and Ann Mason(Grindle).

Thomas Grindle 1850/William Grindle (reply)

Hi Scott,

Thank you for the information regarding William Grindle marrying Ann Mason and their son marrying Fanny Hale.

As in my earlier reply I am not directly related to the children of Charles Grindle & Susannah, or William Brain & Beatta Beddis, but I am to some of their dependents. It is possible that I could discover a Mason or Hale connection from what you have described as I have 66 Mason's & 193 Hale's. I will indeed send you an email and we can compare notes.

I am not sure that you can describe slowhands as a Grindle expert - I would describe him as an expert on all Forest of Dean families !!

Thomas Grindle 1850/William Grindle (reply)

Hi Jim,

I am a direct descendant of the William and Ann Mason Grindle you reference.

Their son, George Hubert Grindle, born 1856, was my Great Grandfather. He married Fanny Hale April 1879 and immigrated to the USA (Ohio) the following year.

You will note that Slowhands has posted a link to a message board string concerning this family, and I encourage you to lokk at it. He is without a doubt the resident expert on the various Grindle lines in The Forest, and has been instrumental in my successes.

I am interseted in how you fit in to this line. I have a fair amount of information on this line. The Grindles, Hales and Brains are intermingled extensively!

Please feel free to contact me directly if you wish.

Thomas Grindle 1850 (reply)

Hi Scott

Charles Grindle & Susannah Hale had 10 children. Four of them married children whose parents were William Brain & Beatta Beddis :
Mary Grindle 1809 m Charles Brain 1810
Thomas Grindle 1812 m Elizabeth Brain 1813
Joseph Grindle 1816 m Emily Brain 1824
John Grindle 1818 m Lucy Brain 1828.

I have a William Grindle baptised 14.8.1831 Little Dean as one of the children of Charles Grindle & Susannah Hale, but have no further information on him, if this is the William you have referred to, I would be interested in his descendancy to see if further links to my tree emerge.

Neither the children of Charles Grindle, or William Brain & Beatta Beddis are directly related to me, however many of their grand & great grand childen are, including Caroline the daughter of Thomas Grindle & Elizabeth Brain, she not being related to me directly, but her spouse Albert Brain is my half third cousin twice removed. See the Albert Brain story in the "Stories & Articles" section of the Forest of Dean web site. Albert Brain emigrated to US in 1888.

Thomas Grindle 1850 (reply)

Regarding this Thomas' parents, has anyone identified which Elizabeth Brain married Thomas Grindle in 1835? Elizabeth's parents are not listed on the 1835 marriage record.

There are two parish Baptisms that I believe could be her.

1. May 2, 1813, Littledean. Parents Thomas and Sarah

2. November 28, 1813, Mitcheldean. Parents William and Beata

The Thomas Grindle who married Elizabeth Brain, is a brother to my 3rd Great Grandfather, William Grindle.

Thank you.
