John WILLIAMS, Yorkley (reply)

Hi Slowhands

Thanks for looking for John William for me. According to his obituary he definitely worked at the New Fancy Pit at some time in his life (he retired at about 1902) but I have no knowledge regarding whether or not he was a free miner. He was said to have been a friend of Thomas Hedges Deakin the New Fancy Mine Manager. Do you know if the records of the New Fancy Mine have survived and if so are they at the Gloucester Records Office?

Kind regards

Roger

I can't see John as a Free Miner in the records / CD I have , or a link for him to New Fancy.

Other records were at the Gavellers Office, Bank House, Bank St, Coleford but I suspect they were all moved, probably to the Glos Records Office / Glos Archives.
