Emanuel ASTON Lane End (reply)

I have Henry and Thos in the US and marrying women from Pennsylvania

I have Emanuel with his wife Ann & his 3 Sons in the U.S. Emanuel had several other children born in West Virginia as did his sons that were born in West Dean. There certainly seems to be a preference for the name "Emanuel" as just about every one had a son with that name. This Emanuel & Ann had two. One died and they had another son a year later and name him Emanuel.

I cannot, however, find any passenger/ship records of when they came to the US. I did find one for a Thos Aston in 1855 but unless he came by himself, that isn't him

Descendents of Richard Aston 1745 (reply)

I'm researching Aston descendent's that have moved to the United States.

I believe my line is
Son of Richard: Emanuel 1787 - Elizabeth Rudge 1874
Son of Emanuel: Henry 1832 (who moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then Mason County West Virginia)

I also believe Henry's two brothers Emanuel 1822 & Thomas 1834 also moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then Mason County West Virginia.

Other than lots of coincidences, I have no "proof" that my Henry Aston is from this family. From what I've found, there is no mention of these brothers after the 1851 UK Census. Does anyone have any further information? Also, in this Census the family is woodcutters, but the Aston's that moved to the US are miners.

Also, is this Richard of 1745 the same one that was sent to Sidney as a convict in 1800? I find it hard to believe as it appears he has a lot of wealth as reflected in his will.

Hi Glenn

The transcript of the Aston will was fascinating - this seems to be the will of our gggg uncle. Your Richard (b 1745 and d Jul 1829) was the son of Edward Aston b 1719 and Patient. We are descended from your Richard's younger brother Thomas (b 1747 at Coleford but registered at Newland).

Your Richard had a lot of children!

Richard b pre 1775
Susannah c 29 Oct 1775 Newland
Anna/Hannah c 12 Jan 1777
Charlotte c 27 May 1778
Amelia Amia b 1779
Betty/Elizabeth c 23 Aug 1781 Newland
Thomas c 9 Apr 1782 Newland
Jane c 15 Aug 1784 Newland
Emmanuel c 1 Apr 1787
Anna Maria/Maria b 1788
Ann(e) c 13 Jun 1790 (had illigitimate son Edward c 24 Dec 1810 Newland)
William c 16 Sept 1791 and died 1793

The will also refers to a daughter Catherine - does anyone have any information about her?

Best wishes

ASTON. Five Acres Glos (reply)

There is another Richard Aston born 1750 son of Philip & Ruth, a burial for Newland on 21 May 1834 age 84 yrs would be in keeping with this age and a burial for Mary 18 Sep 1821 age 67 birth year 1754.

The burial date Michael had stated I have attached to my Richard Aston also born 1745, son of Edward & Patience, I have not looked at the will staed for 1829, but he also lived in Lane End Broadwell are also a Woodcutter.

Whilst looking at the burials many years ago I did find a burial for a richard born 1745 son of John & Frances, in Newland parish registers, but did not note date, (slap on the wrist) just eliminated him.

I hope this helps Julie

Best wishes...Gill
