12th century pub which was used as a meeting house as far back as 1110. Still trading, the Malt Shovel has been rebuilt and extended over the years. Whether or not the brewery was at the Malt Shovel Inn or elsewhere in Ruardean (Angel perhaps) is not yet known.

More Photos added in the Gallery

Now in the Photo Gallery are two very interesting Newspaper clippings sent to us
by Gillian Macmillan

Could this be our oldest Inn?
Malt Shovel, Ruardean
To call this pub historic is a slight misnomer as it was built before most of
our history had ever happened.

St John the Baptist Church, Ruardean
The lady chapel itself is from the 12 century. the porch was added in 1200 and
the chancel and sanctuary saw the light of day around 1635.
