Passenger lists to and from Canada 1910-1914 (reply)

There is some evidence of "recruiting agents" based in Cinderford in the 1901 census, so my guess is that an Agent went to an area to gather a batch of families to work in Coal mine/ Quarry project in the States / Canada. Rather than independent family units deciding to emigrate and finding themselves on the same boat as other families from the same or next Forest village.

I'm sure it would make the "search for a better life" more acceptable if you knew a local group were going - family , friends etc...

Example advert in 1887 :-

" Assisted passages to America by the Allen Line for £3 - For further
particulars apply J Horwood, New Zealand and American Agency Office
Cinderford."

In the 1891 and 1901 Census John Horwood is a Grocer /Dealer in Commercial St
Cinderford.
http://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~marj/genealogy/allan.html for some background on the Allan Line and Anglo-Canadian shipping.

Passenger lists to and from Canada 1910-1914 (reply)

Hi,
I have found my Long family arrived in Saskatchewen in 1908
I wonder if there is a connection with the families?
Apparently also a relative is Percy Knolwles and his wife Francis.
The area they settled in was Battleford.
Just seems strange the same area of the Forest and the same area of Canada?
