Whitehill - Puddlebrook Quarry (reply)

1841 "Morse"
Source information: HO107/365/10
Registration district: Ross
Sub-registration district: Llangarren
ED, institution, or vessel: 9
Folio: 20
Page: 9

1851 White Hill *
George Meck 49
Ann Meck 15
Joseph Meck 13
Lucy Meck 9

* The original of the above is with Book 4a 577

In the enumeration notes to this book
" also 1 house called White Hill taken from E Book 3c 354

4a and 3c are East Dean enumeration books so, 3c claims that White Hill in the parish of Ruardean was removed, 3c contains Drybrook, which tends to tie in with the Morse.

So going to Old Maps just north of Morse Lane leading out of Drybrook towards Ruardean we find
Whitehill, which I suspect is where Puddlebrrok Quarry is today.

Dave, Thank you very much. That location makes sense. George was a stonecutter and that places him near the quarries.

Looking at an old map, I have located White Hill Farm which is on the north side of Morse Lane, just before you get into Drybrook coming from Ruardean.

White Hill - Where is it?

In the 1851 census the address for the Meek family in my line is given as White Hill. It appears that they are the only family in that census with that address and it is probably in or near Ruardean. Is there SKS who can locate White Hill for me? Thank you, Dewey
