Possible daughter of Jepeath James (Uncle Warren FoD Riots) (reply)

Hi

Apologies about the delay in replying to your information. I inadvertently forgot to tick the email reminder box and it's been a few days since I last checked the site.

Many thank’s for your information. A coincidence that there is a baptism within a few months of each other with the same names as your Jeptha 1755-1817 (Mary) and Richard 1727-1767 (Sarah). Obviously your Richard and Sarah cannot be the Richard and Sarah in the 1798 baptism but maybe a possible family member. Jeptha and Mary parents of Elizabeth, baptism May 20 1798 could that possibly be your Jeptha James 1755-1817 child a sister of Jeptha James 1788-1867?

My Elizabeth (James ) (1798-1876) married James Wintle (1797 -1873 ) 14 Sept 1823 in Newlands
Elizabeth and James did not name any of their 9 children Jeptha or Richard. So maybe a totally different family.

As you say I may never know.

It was helpful getting your dates as all the information assists with the ‘jig saw’.

Cheers Gill ‘

Possible daughter of Jepeath James (Uncle Warren FoD Riots) (reply)

Hi Apologies for taking so long to reply but missed ticking the box for an email reminder.

Thanks for all your information. Ralph Anstis book 'Warren James and the Dean Forest Riots' states that Warren's sister Hannah moved to London and lived with a noble man and I guess that she is the one the newspaper article is referring to.

It is always possible that she was not baptised plus James is a well used name in the Forest.

Many Thanks Gill

Jeptha James born 1755 died 1817, his son Jeptha was born 1788 and died 1867. Jeptha is spelt in many different ways in the different records. Your Elizabeth is most likely to be related to Warren in one way or another but I think it may be difficult to prove which Elizabeth she is unfortunately. Both Warren senior and Jeptha are my ancestors with their father being Richard James 1727 - 1767 and mother Sara (unknown maiden name)

Later note.Does the mentioned book imply that Japeath/Jeptha was alive at the time of the riots? If so this post may be a red herring.

Warren’s sister may be worth following up as evidenced by this newspaper comment during a report of the riots and his part in them,

BNA Cheltenham Journal and Gloucestershire Fashionable Weekly Gazette. - Monday 27 June 1831

The Foresters quoted the Duke of Beaufort and the Lord Chancellor, as authorising their conduct! His Grace is stated to have recommended them to petition, and merely promised to support their prayer. Warren James's sister lives as servant to the Lord Chancellor, whom he pretends to have consulted. The soldiers found out his signals, three claps of the hand, which brought him up from the mine, and placed him safe in their clutches. Like all English and Irish mobs, the Forest Rioters are great cowards.

Possible daughter of Jepeath James (Uncle Warren FoD Riots)

Please bear with me once again as I try to find out more about Elizabeth James my G G Grandmother who married James Wintle on 14th September 1823 Newlands. I have found a few possible parents for her plus I have considered that she may never have been baptised. I have narrowed it down to the two most likely possibilities. (below).
If her parents are Jeptha and Mary James this could make her Warren James’s cousin. Although his Uncle was named as Japeath in Ralph Anstis book Warren James and the Dean Forrest Riots.

As I am about to write an overview of the Riots for my family album it would be of interest if there was a possibility of Warren being Elizabeth’s cousin or even to be able to state that there was no relationship.
Any information that would help re a relationship to Warren James would be helpful, for or against.
