Orphanages in Monmouthshire in 1914 - ELLIS (reply)

Thank you. I have seen these ones come up. I think it’s possible that his birth parents were living in India at the time. Im
Not sure how he got from India to Monmouthshire!
It’s possible that his surname was picked by the orphanage. I do think (based on DNA links) that Mervyn and William were picked by the parents. It’s all a bit of a riddle!

Orphanages in Monmouthshire in 1914 (reply)

Just Googled : Workhouses in Monmouthshire did they take in Orphans?

…….

A1 Overview

Yes, workhouses in Monmouthshire, like those elsewhere, did admit orphans. They were a designated group within the workhouse population, alongside the poor, the sick, the elderly and unmarried mothers. Some workhouses, such as the one in Chepstow, even established separate children’s homes to house orphaned and abandoned children.

Orphanages in Monmouthshire in 1914

Hello - I am trying to find the records of my grandfather, Mervyn Ellis. Who was either born or placed in an orphanage around Dec 1914. Would anyone have any tips on how to search? It was in the Monmouthshire area but I don’t know where abouts exactly.
Thank you x
