magistrates court 100 years ago. The accused was an elderly widow, Ellen
Hayward, 68, living near Cinderford's St. John's Church.

She was widely known as Old Ellen, and famed as a healer and "wise woman". A
herbalist she used potions to cure ailments and dress sores - of animals as well
as human beings.
