Hi Alison.

Netherfield Road is a very long road in Everton, just on the outskirts of the city. It is split between North and South, i.e Netherfield Road North & Netherfield Road South.

I will try and work out likely churches for burial. Where are you? If nowhere nr Liverpool, I could try and look for burial at likely church next time I go to Record Office.

There is a Margaret Silver married to Timothy on the 1861 & 1871 census, first in Epsom St, then Paget St. This is the same district of St Martin as Netherfied Road, although a few minutes walk away.

Will see what I can find.

I'll get back to you shortly

Hi Chris,
Yes I think you are right. Mary Priest nee Harris was a widow when she married John Morgan in 1836.(Mary was my husbands g g grandmother) I know that she took some of her children Hubert, Charles and Mary Ann from her marriage to William Priest with her when she married John Morgan. John and Mary then had a child Jessie Morgan born in 1861. After Mary died in 1865 I believe that John Morgan married again and Jessie lived with him and his next wife Hannah Davis.
I don't suppose you know what happened to Jessie Morgan? I have yet to get round to detailed research on him but my fear is that he is the Jessie Morgan who died in 1880 in Shardlow??
Have looked at your tree and now have full details for John Morgan, many thanks.
Alison

Hi Simone,
Unfortunately the death certificate is not at all easy to read as the writing is awful!
The informant who was present at death was a M S Silver and the address of death and informant is 130, Netherfield Road, North Everton.(I think). I have tried to find out more about the address or informant Silver from the 1861 census but have drawn a blank on both. The informant is not his sister or any relative that I am aware of and I think it likely that he was lodging there while working as a stone mason. The registration district on the death certificate is West Derby & Toxteth Park in the sub district of Everton in the county of Lancaster.
Having looked at the certificate again today I still think that it is Hubert and not Herbert and am still 99.9% sure that I have the right guy but I don't think we will ever know for sure unless we can trace a burial which I have to confess I don't really know how to go about doing! Any advice greatly appreciated as Hubert has for some reason always been one of my favourites and I have always said that I would find out all I could about him.
Thanks again,
Alison

Hubert PRIEST b 1841 Newland (reply)

Update for Hubert Priest
I am now 99% certain that I have found Hubert Priest. I now have a death certificate for a Hubert/Herbert(unclear) who died in 1868 aged 27 which checks out with Hubert's dob in 1841. Even the death register is unclear as the first name has been overtyped and could be Hubert or Herbert. I have gone through every birth recorded to see if there is another Herbert that could match this death certificate and there is not, thankfully all the records are complete for 1841 and three years either side just in case!
Hubert died of Typhoid whilst working as a stone mason in West Derby where his sister Mary Ann was working as a servant so I think I can be fairly certain it is him although it is infuriating not to have 100% proof.
Thanks for everyones help and interest.
Alison

Shutcastle, Lodge (reply)

The Lodge is sadly demolished - according to a New Regard issue (2004) there was a section of wall left (!)

In the article it also mentions Samuel Priest who in about 1810 was approached to sell for £60 his cottage to the Crown so that it could become the Woodman's Lodge.

His widow in March 1813 allowed the cottage to continue to be used as the Lodge, however the Crown did not find the son acceptable to be the Woodman .

David Mushet's Coleford residence is very different both location and style :-)

worked as Manager so a possible and died in Lydbrook area where most of the family were. Waiting for birth certificate to see if I can get any further. Thanks again. Alison
