Jane Meek born 1860 (reply)

Hi Nigel

As you have noted Gerry is right, you are slightly on the wrong track. However the 7 children of Beriah Meek & Tryphena Williams are spread over the period 1828 & 1841. Beriah Meek 1841 was the brother of Moses Meek 1828 who married Lucy Meek 1827, the subject of this posting.

As you have said the parents of Charles Henry James Meek 1882 were Beriah Meek 1841 & Jane Johnson 1845. Beriah 1841 son of Beriah Meek & Tryphena Williams. I have Charles Henry James Meek as being married to Lilian Bainbridge having daughter Beatrice, but have nothing further on Charles's descendants. As Charles Henry James Meek was my 5th cousin twice removed, we are related and I would like to hear from you. Perhaps you could click on my email link - the envelope icon.

I have 3 Elsie Meeks in my tree, but none with obvious links to this line:

Elsie E Meek 1900, daughter of George Meek 1872 & Elizabeth Barnett 1875 :

1901 Census East Dean
George Meek 25 CM East Dean
Eliza 25 Blakenay
Lilly E F 4 East Dean
Frank H J 2 East Dean
Elsie E 6 months East Dean
Living next door to George's parents James Meek 1844 & Sophia Trigg.

Elsie Meek 1901, daughter of Simeon Meek 1857 & Abiah Meek 1856
6 siblings incl.females Beatrice, Lily & Mabel.

Elsie Meek 1884, daughter of William Meek 1852 & Sarah Melinda Tanner 1863. 2 siblings Laura & Wilfred Victor.

I think that you are on the wrong track - my aunt Etta had no sisters, Though the date of birth of Jane Meek is the same as that of Etta's mother.

Hi Gerry

My grandmother was Elsie Meek who I believe was your Aunt's sister.I remember visiting their house in the early 70's as a young child. If memory serves she was married to Tommy Thew and they ran a pig farm and ran a milk round?.I also remember a minor bird and that the house was called Myrtle Cottage?I hope I have the correct details. My ggrandfather was Charles Henry James Meek. Can you confirm if correct and I can continue the family tree.
regards

Jane MEEK 1860 Ruardean Hill (reply)

Thank you Slowhands & Reporter

That seems to be resolved then !! All the pieces of information seem to prove it conclusively, including Gerry's Aunt Henrietta.

John Meek 1860 my 3rd cousin 4 times removed, marries Jane Meek my 5th cousin twice removed. Although I have a few Marfell's that marry cousins, including my great great grandparents Cornelius Marfell & Mary Ann Marfell, the Meeks seem to delight in inter marrying, I now have quite a few Meek cousins that have married.

Jim,

This may be a lead - I can remember my aunt, Henrietta Meek, speaking of a relative, Tryphenia Jane. She would be Etta's great-grandmother if she was the mother of the Moses Meek in question. Her husband was Beria Meek.

Jane Meek born 1860 (reply)

1871 census shows Jane living with parents Moses 1828 and Lucy (nee Meek also)1828 in Morse Road. The 1901 has Jane with husband John, still on Morse Road. I searched for other Janes and reckon I eliminated any other visible possibilities. So it's Moses son on Beriah and Tryphena I've gone for.

Jane Meek born 1860

John Meek born 1859 East Dean son of Richard Vaughan Meek & Hannah Harrison married Jane Meek born 1860 East Dean at the Forest Church Drybrook 25.12.1884. The marriage details are in the Parish Records of this site, showing father of Jane Meek as Moses Meek Coal Miner.

My question is - does anybody know which Moses Meek this is. Even in my own Family Tree I have 5 potential candidates, but cannot prove it as neither had a daughter Jane.
