Thomas WHITTINGTON St Briavels 1735 - 1834 (reply)

Wow I am impressed - A father at 80 and remarried at 90! Seriously though thanks for all your efforts Slowhands and Chris W.They are very much appreciated. Personally my money is on the milkman, William from Redbrook, as Sarah's father if only because of the dates. I know Sarah's maiden name because it is on the birth certificate of her daughter Desimiah(Poor girl. Her name never appears the same way more than once and my Aunt claims she was named Decima(?)after her). The name of the child's mother is Sarah Richards formerly Whittington. Given the mis-spellings of her daughter's name I have also considered similar sounding names eg. Whittenton etc. but with no luck. Pity, as I have done very well tracing the rest of my Forest of Dean ancestors, thanks to this wonderful resource. Kind Regards

I'm having a problem with this Thomas Slowhands! If it is the right one he fathered Sarah when he was 80, than remarried when he was 90. Do you think he could be the Grandaddy?

Sarah Whittington (reply)

Many thanks for that Chris. George seems a very likely candidate. I'll be looking more closely at Sarah from Redbrook too. Yes it was sad about Elizabeth but not uncommon in those days. George and Sarah went on to have a long and (I believe)happy and productive life together though.
What a wonderful forum. Judging by the promptness of your response I'm reassured to know that I'm not the only obsessive! Thanks again.

Sarah Whittington St Briavels b.1815

Does anyone have any knowledge of my G.G.Grandmother Sarah Whittington, born in St Briavels 1n 1815? She was married to George Richards b.1814 in Aylburton.
I am unable to find any record of her baptism or marriage in parish records.I have even considered that her Whittington name might have been from an earlier marriage. Her first child Emma was born in 1841. My G.Grandmother, Decimiah was born in 1848.I only know these few facts from the census returns. Any suggestions please?
