Mr Edwin JONES, age 63, of Ruspidge a well-know member of the colliery staff of Lightmoor, Messrs. Crawshay's large Cinderford coal mine, was fatally injured by being knocked down at about nine o'clock on Monday evening by a cyclist of 16 years named Hartley COOPER of Factory Row, Cinderford, who was proceeding to work at Eastern United Colliery -- etc etc... Deceased leaves a son of about 20, who emigrated a few months ago, and four daughters, three of whom are married.

My grandmother's name was Hilda Buffrey. I seem to remember that her single name was Jones. She lived in Cinderford, Forest of Dean. My grandfather was a collier. My mother's name was Barbara Rhoda Dyer née Buffrey. She was married to Leonard James Dyer from London. I was born in Cinderford in a hospital, which, as far as I remember was called the Dilke. I moved to Brazil in 1971 and lost contact with the family. I remember that I had an aunt who moved to Australia. If I am not mistaken she was from Coleford. An uncle remained in Cinderford. When we were kids we called him Ted.

The family thought Hilda May was born around 1895 although she wasn't too sure herself! The Ravenhill - Nash marriage confirms to me that these are her 'adoptive' parents. As the 1901 Census shows her to be living with John and Adalaide Ravenhill I think we have to discount Hilda May Vincent and Gladys H. M. Tuck as possible contenders. Thanks again.

Many Thanks for all your efforts. Yes, this is the Hilda I am researching with her 'adoptive' parents. I have her marriage certificate which gives the maiden name of Ravenhill. She married Malcolm Watkins at Monmouth Reg. Office on 11-9-1915. She died in 1988.
The Baptism I had assumed to be my Hilda's because of the correct date of birth, 23rd May, and same christian names and location now looks as if it could belong to the Hilda May Jones shown in the marriage of 1915 and in the 1901 census at St. John's, Cinderford. A strange coincidence which leaves me without any more clues as to my Hilda May Ravenhill's true parents.
