Edward ROSSER 1802 - 1838 Robin Hood Inn - Coleford (reply)

Thanks slowhands, I have followed the link to your post on May's enquiry and, well, it all forms a bit of a circle! May was enquiring in 2005 prior to my visit to the UK. Yes, it seems that Edward is my ancestor and, interestingly, the Rosser's have spent time over the generations on both sides of the bar not to their great profit it would seem. In the past I have been a licensee. One of Edward's sons - James (1836) died from liver failure seemingly from spending too much time on the 'wrong' side of the bar!

Now that we have a good 'handle' on Edward I am interested to trace any siblings. From my understanding Edward was the son of John and Sarah Rosser of Coleford, and had two brothers William, born 11/11/1810 and Richard, born 24/02/1908 and possibly a sister Elizabeth 06/09/1801. To date I have been unable to trace any of their descendents. Any assistance with that would be greatly appreciated as I have accounted for all of Edward (1806) male descendents and we are desparately few in number - it would be nice to know someone was keeping John and Sarah's line going a little better than us!

Robin Hood Inn - Coleford (reply)

Hi Anthony, I am interested to know more about the Edward Rosser of Robin Hood Inn as I believe I may be a direct descendent of his as my GG Grandfather was an Edward Rosser and I believe he was an Innkeeper in the Forest but I have little more information except that he died in his 30's prior to 1840. If you can assist further - it would be good to hear form you, Murray Rosser

Robin Hood Iron Mine nr Coleford / Staunton (reply)

If you head out of Coleford towards Staunton, where the minor road you are on joins A4136 from Berry Hill towards Monmouth you will reach the Traffic lights.

This area is close to the old Robin Hood Iron Mine, and Marions Brick Kilns/Works , opposite the road junction is Marions Inclosure .

http://www.old-maps.co.uk/

coords 356400 211600

So the "Theme" feels right ! - save this is the Forest of Dean and not Sherwood :-)
