Bowery, Hannah, Previous threads (reply)

Hi Geraldine,
I see you've posted on this subject a few times in the past. Searching the forum for "Bowery" gives the following prior threads. I doubt I can add anything to what you already know. I will ask my mother if she recalls the Bowery's but her memory isn't fantastic these days.

May Hill, Anne (Hannah) Bowery d 1943 (reply)

Good evening Geraldine, welcome to the forum !

You say you have some dates, have you searched this site's PRs at all, they're freely available. To make the search easier you can narrow it down to certain parish churchs, eg parkend or Huntley.
I presume this is your ggrandmother ?

Record_ID: 51455
Entry_Number: 339
Year: 1943
Month: Aug
Day: 9
Surname: BOWERY
Forenames: Anne otherwise Hannah
Residence: Glasshouse Cottage May Hill Huntley
Age_at_death: 88
Officiating_Minister: J.W.J.Thackwell Rector
Event: Burial
Cause_of_death:
Memoranda:
Notes:
Register_Reference: P184 1/15
Page_No: 43
Parish_Chapel: Huntley
Soundex: B600

This is the only "Bowery" Parish Record the site lists under Huntley Parish, although there are earlier Records for Bowry (1729) and Bower even earlier than that !. It was quite common for names to be spelt differently, especially one like your which I would say is quite unusual. Other nearby Parishes worth checking are Taynton and Longhope, there are many more Bowery etc PRs there. You mention "Glasshouses Newent". I think the Newent reference is a little misleading as this was the nearest large town, Glasshouses is really the Longhope/May Hill area. Indeed there is a Glasshouse Hill there now. (My mother was born in Longhope in 1932 so I know the area a little).

For more history, old photos and Family history/census info etc re Taynton see this website http://www.taynton.btinternet.co.uk/
Similarly for Longhope http://www.longhopevillage.co.uk/

[MOVED TO REJOIN PREVIOUS THREAD]

I'm reserching the Bowery's of parkend, I am trying to find any information re my g grandfather and ggrandmother, I no their names were thomas and Anna i've got their birth dates and Marriage dates, I have nothing on my ggrandmother as she came from spain, She was Born in a small village near malaga, I would like to find any one who new of them they lived at the glass houses newent, My Grandparents lived in the Square were we spend many happy child hood holidays, I do have a few pictures of my mum when she were young would like to put them on here in the 'old photos' But if any one can shed light on Anna Bowery who 'apparently didn't speak any english when she came here' to england, I feel she would possibly have made a few trips to parkend to see family, if thats where they lived, My gran and Grancher lived in the square untill the new houses where built up at the rise,
