Thank you Slowhands. So, is the baptism I found (with aide of new specs)the wrong James or, is it a transcription error and should read 1807 not 1817 as on baptism record? Should I have gone to Specsavers? Regards Jean

JAMES BRAIN was born 10 Jun 1807 in Little Dean, Gloucestershire, England, and died 24 Aug 1886 in Collafield, Gloucestershire, England He married MARY HERBERT 13 Apr 1831 in ?. She was born 1808 in Abinghall Gloucestershire, England, and died 13 Dec 1887 in Collafield-Edgehills, Gloucestershire, England.

Thank you both for your research. As there is still uncertainty as to the actual date of birth and parentage of William, I will leave him alone. I was more concerned about James Brain, son of William and Beata. I initially could not find his baptism but with the help of new specs I think I may have found his baptism as follows:

If I had not found this record it would have disrupted my whole tree, as this James married Mary Herbert in April 1831. BUT the following records is the one which threw me. It is for another one of William and Beata's sons, Thomas. You will notice that the baptism dates are the same year, James being 3 Aug 1817 and Thomas 6 July 1817. I find this strange. Why not have the two boys baptised together as the dates are so near to each other? Difficult to establish actual dates of birth. Regards Jean Herbert

William Brain/Beata Beddis children

William Brain dob 1778??? married Beata Beddis on 1 Jan 1807 Flaxley (marriage record obtained from this site).I have no idea who his father was.
Just noticed that the marriage record to Beata Beddis shows him to be a widower. Has anyone any information as to his first marriage and did he have children?

I have found the baptism records on this site for the following children:
William born 4 March 1807
Charles born 29 Aug 1811 died 6 March 1816
Elizabeth born 1813
Thomas born 1817
sophia born 24 Feb 1819
Beata born 1822
Lucy born 1828.

All the above children are accounted for via baptism records BUT I have two more children shown in my records which I am not certain are correct.
One is an Emily Brain born abt 1824 but cannot find baptism which would connect her to William and Beata.
The other one is a James Brain who married Mary Herbert on 30 April 1831 at Abenhall. There is no father named on the marriage record.
For whatever reason I had this James in my records as the son of William and Beata but as I cannot find a baptism record for him I am not certain I have the correct father. To confuse the issue, 1841 census shows him as born 1806, 1851 as born 1810, 1861 as born 1805, 1871 as born 1804 and 1881 as born 1801.
Any help appreciated. Regards Jean Herbert
