It looks as though the surname BROAD may just have been coincidence. The only reason I wondered is that the only marriage I've found anywhere in a plausible time frame between a Jeremiah HAYES and an Elizabeth is in Walcot, Somerset with Elizabeth's maiden name BROAD. When AJH turns up lodging with some more BROADs and no sign anywhere else of any family I began to wonder.

But it must just be a fluke.

Either that or the Elizabeth I found is the wrong one!

Ah well. Back to the drawing board.

In 1836 James BROAD (widower) married Mary PARRY in Abenhall according to the parish records on this site. In 1841 Arthur James HAYES was lodging with them... though you won't find them by looking at any of the indexes, as both the Broads have had their names mangled and they're down as a different household in any case!

I'm interested in James as he may have been Arthur James HAYES's maternal uncle. However, I know very little more than this about him, apart from the fact that he gives his place of birth as Upton-on-Severn, Worcs. He seems to have died before 1861 as his widow is then staying with one of the witnesses at her wedding.

Does anyone know anything else?
