Yes, Elizabeth seems to be 'lost' in 1871. I also cannot find her father Thomas. I know that he remarried in 1866. It may be that she stayed with Thomas and his new wife but why? - all the other children went to members of the family. It just niggles to have a loose end.

You have found my problem. I am looking for Elizabeth Herbert born 1860 to Amanda and Thomas. She is the one working for the Rymer family in 1881. When she marries in 1882 she is listed as a servant and gives her father's name as Thomas. But where was she in 1871?
I can only find Elizabeth born to Phillip and Elizabeth in 1871 - the same one you found in 1861.
I suppose I need to check the census of all the extended family for my Elizabeth - obviously someone must have taken her when Amanda her mother died in 1865.

Thank you so much for the information. It is Elizabeth born to Amanda and Thomas that I am looking for in 1871. I cannot find where she went when her mother died. However, you have solved one problem for me. I did find Elizabeth living with Philip in 1871 and wondered if they had taken her as their daughter - particularly as I could not find the baptism for their Elizabeth. So I am still searching for who cared for the young Elizabeth in 1865 to 1881 when I find her again.
