Richard YEMM 1834 - 1860 Ruardean / St Whites Cinderford (reply)

Hi Jean, Slowhands & others

I followed this thread with great interest, much of the information I had already received from Jean. I hadn't though realised before slowhands uncovered it that the Richard Yemm concerned was the son of Robert Yemm & Elizabeth Powell - married Huntley 7.4.1834.

Having made this connection, I can add to this interesting thread :

Richard Yemm had a brother Moses as you can see from the census data Slowhands provided. Moses married Elizabeth Anthony 12.11.1865 Newnham, having 4 children including Emily Edith Yemm 24.6.1871 Ruardean, they emigrated to US in 1881. Edith Emily Yemm became the third wife of Thomas Trump marrying 9.8.1894 Brazil, Clay IN, USA. The first wife of Thomas Trump was Dora Read, daughter of William Read & Selina Marfell, Dora had a sister Rachel who married Amos Gibbs. In the 1900 US Census Thomas Trump was shown to have emigrated to US in 1880, but he couldn't have done as he was in jail in England for shooting the above mentioned Amos Gibbs. Now refer to the "Stories" section under the "Download" heading and see an item I submitted - "Shooting at Ruardean"

Thank you Chris W for your reply. I agree that Willard is possibly William but- where on earth did all these children appear from, they seem to have been born after husband died or am I missing something? Note baptism of child Ann. Her supposed father died in 1860, child Ann (no fathers name on baptism) born 1863. And, Arthur???? (for and behalf of Jean Herbert incapacitated)

Jane Phelps/Yemm/Barnard

Jane Phelps was born in 1830, registered in Abenhal. (baptism taken from this site). Her parents were James and Prudence Phelps.
I am having many problems tracing this lady, and am posting this on the site in the hope that someone may either correct my mistakes and point me in the right direction OR HOPEFULLY tell me that my findings are correct:

A Jane Phelps married Richard Yemm in 1855 Gloucester. Q3 vol 6a page 104 (taken from Ancestry BMD). No record found as yet on FoD website of marriage)

Richard Yemm died in 1860 Gloucester. Q3 vol 6a page 363 page 104 (taken from Ancestry BMD) No record found as yet on FoD website of death.

Jane is next found living with her parents James and Prudence Phelps
1861 Census East Dean
RG9 piece 1756 folio 52 page 7
Address: Horsepool Bottom
James Phelps Head occ: Laborer age 83 born abt 1778 Longhope
Prudence Phelps Wife age 75 born abt 1786 Abinhall
Jane Yemm Dau occ: House Duties age 30 born abt 1831 East Dean
Arthur Yemm Grandson age 11 Scholar born abt 1850 East Dean
Ann Yemm Grandaughter age 1 born abt 1860 East Dean

The above census is very puzzling. I did find a baptism of Ann Yemm on FoD but dated 1863, long after Richard Yemm died. The 1861 census also shows an Arthur Yemm born abt 1850 but I can find no record for him.

Jane is not found on 1871 census under name of Phelps but I did find a record of a marriage to a William Barnard in 1886. Q2 vol 6a page 494. Record taken from Ancestry BMD, no record found as yet on FOD website.

A record of burial found on FoD website for a William Barnard

Robert Gernn Son occ: Iron Miner age 13 born abt 1858 East Dean
(please note that if you read the actual census the two Gernn boy's surnames should read Yemm)No baptism found yet for either of the two boys)

Willard Barnard Son occ: Iron Miner age 14 born abt 1867 East Dean
Walter Barnard Son Scholar age 13 born abt1868 East Dean
(no baptism or birth for any of the above sons. The 1871 census shows Arthur and Robert but not Willard and Walter.

I have Jane on 1891 and 1901 but by now I am totally confused and not at all certain that I have been following the correct family. Can anyone help? regards Jean Herbert (typed for Jean whilst incapacited)
