Many thanks Chris for sending all this information.

The confusion is that in addition to the 2 sons named Edward that Winter and Elizabeth had, on the copy of our family tree that I have Winter's son (also called Winter) and his wife Mary Baker also had a son called Edward who would have to have been born around 1748. This Edward married Betsy (Westbury on Trym) and had a son called John 1768 - my gtx3 grandfather. However, there is another version of the tree which shows that John's father was Winter senior's son Edward (b.1738) and that Winter junior never had a son called Edward at all. Confusion! Don't think I'll ever get to the bottom of it, but thanks for helping. I'm getting copies of wills from Gloucester Record Office which may throw some light. There is also a family bible somewhere but have lost track of it - it's in Somerset somewhere.

John Harrison's father was Edward Harrison, mother Elizabeth known as Betsy. Edward was originally from Newnham and I would like more information about him, i.e. date of birth etc.
