Mary Ann MANN (or Mane) ?? (reply)

Aha!!!! That would indeed make sense. Just shows how another person can have a different perspective!!! I would never have thought of that! Mary Jane gave two of her children the name Churchill as a second name. Thanks so much for taking the time to find that lot! Really appreciate your help.........again!!!

MARE ? MACE ? MORE (reply)

It's M?re. At first glance it looks like Mure but the second letter could be an 'a' that the writer has not closed at the top. I would have said Mure comparing the 'u' to that in the writer's June. Just couldn't find any reference to Mure anywhere.

Mary Jane JONES 1852 (reply)

Hi
Thanks for finding that. It's difficult to read the Birth Certificate but yes the fathers occupation is given as Mariner. The 'name surname and maiden name of mother' box reads Mary Ann Jones formerly Mure (or Mare)

MURE or MARE??? Poss of English Bicknor

I have a Mary Jane Jones born 11th May 1852, English Bicknor. Mother is shown on Birth Certificate as Mary Ann nee Mure or Mare but I can't find any reference to either of these names, father is George Jones.
I have Mary Jane in 1861 as a boarder staying with the Churchill family Anchorberry Hill, West Dean so no details of parents available there.
Anyone else come across this name please???
Jenny
