Thank you so much for such a helpful and prompt reply. I am very grateful to you. The Gazette is a brilliant resource that will come in pretty useful.

I have been trying to sort out Reuben Joynour/Joyner/Joiner for some time trying to identify whether my interest was the merchant, the army officer or the mariner. Looks like they were all the same chap!

Appreciate that a few years have passed since the original message but would appreciate any further details about Reuben Joynour's prison sentence at Gloucester gaol. I can't find any reference to it. Does anyone know where this information came from?

if you do a similar search with Joynour http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/all=joynour/start=1 - you find a Bankruptcy in August 1790 for a Reuben of Deans Hill Littledean.

Well done on 1861. I had seen the Poole death and it is the only one that matches so could be her.

Thank you for looking at the IGI for me. Let me just say I am doing this research for someone on another message board but since she has not replied I may well stop - but I do enjoy it and tend to get the bit between my teeth!

I have found this family mainly as Joyner but the occasional Joiner does crop up. The reason I am looking at the Forest of Dean is because Reuben was said to be 'of Dean Hill' in a reference on Gazettes online and there is a Caroline Joynour who said she was born in the Forest of Dean when she appeared in Bath in 1851. I can't find her on any other census. There were at least three of Reuben's offspring living in Bath at the time plus his widow Mary Ann (Buttler) who he married as a widower. I suspect you are right and the Shropshire marriage was his.

Looking for any reference to the name Joynour of Dean Hill. Littledean? c1770-1840. Reuben Joynour was a soldier who was at Westbury on Trym and baptised his children there. He was imprisoned at Gloucester in 1790. May have been at Dean Hill if I can identify the place.

Any help appreciated.
