My grandmother was a Franklin from Gloucester, but the family originated from Chipping Norton area where there were loads of them & they stick to the same forenames which makes life difficult. Also I don't think they were very good at registering births & I can't find deaths registered which might mean there are some buried in the orchard!
Thanks for your interest.

My grandmothers mother was a Franklin from Wiltshire. I had a look around the websites. It appears that the main concentrations of Franklins are in greater London, Essex, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. The latter two extending outwards somewhat. No surprise about London although Essex is surprising.

Evidently Gloucestershire is well worthwhile continuing to search. Another website listed most common Franklin first names from the Census's. Don't know how reliable it is, but James 1841 = 6, 1851 = 65, 1861 = 111. One of the 1841 James is mine and I don't think connected to yours.

Good luck with your researches.

Thank you, I have the other details, but not the 'Marianne', but had found a Marianne
VERGOE on your site after I had posted, so you have confirmed that she is the one for me to follow up. The family bible owned by a relation in Swansea gave her as Mary Ann, but it could be the same - I hope so & will let you know.
Thanks again.

Mary A FRANKLIN nee ? 12/5/1825 Blakeney

My gg-grandfather James Franklin who lived in Gloucester remarried between 1861 and 1871, presumably after his first wife Ann Hayward, died. I know his second wife was Mary A. ? born on 12th May 1825 (date from a family bible),in Blakeney but have no idea what her surname was. I cannot search your records without her surname and as I live in the Lake District, I can't get to Gloucester archives at least until the summer. A Jane Brooks was living with them as a lodger,(aged 13) but I assume Brooks was not Mary's maiden name as I can't find that either, nor have I found a marriage for a Brooks and a Mary A. so have come to a dead end. is there anybody in Blakeney who would know how to find this Mary A. please?
