Re James Pritchard.
Not a soundex response but are either of these the same as the James Pritchard you are researching? James Pritchard, baptised Peterstow 26 July 1772, married Elizabeth Davies 29 Sep 1795 in Goodrich. In 1841 census James was an Innkeeper in Littledean, died 29 Jan 1851 in Littledean, occupation victualler, age 79.
One of his sons was James Pritchard baptised 31 July 1796 in Goodrich, married Sarah Pope in Monmouth 4 May 1817 both of extraparochial part of FOD adjoining St. Briavels. In 1841 census James Pritchard, carpenter, and family in Littledean Hill. In early 1840's family moved to Stourport/Kidderminster area of Worcs.
If so have more information.
Regards
Ian

There are not many people who have had my name SINDREY. When using Soundex I am faced with what can be hundreds of Saunder, Saunders, Saunderson, Sunder etc. particularly on Ancestry. If I try SINDEY, which has worked for me in some census documents, I first have to trawl through acres of Smiths.

So you're not alone, happy hunting!

Thanks - I think!!
Might be useful to have other contributions of names that are likewise
affected. I would certainly have missed this if I had not been certain of some of the details.

Interesting - highlights one of the challenges with a "coding" ( of any data) to aid computer searches !

That is what you think "sounds" like a similar name can have a different code which will "blind" the computers search...

Soundex Code for pritchard = P632
Other surnames sharing this Soundex Code:
PARADIS | PAREDES | PARTOSA | PORTEOUS | PRIDEAUX | PRIDGEN | PRIDGEON | PRITCHARD | PRITCHETT |

Soundex Code for prichard = P626

Soundex

Having just searched for James Pritchard with the soundex activated the result was that nothing was found. When entering James Prichard the required information was presented. As the variation between Pritchard and Prichard is the most likely is there a technical reason that soundex does not recognize this?
