William Vaughan b1848 Blakeney - Forest boy in the Scrubs (reply)

Well found, that seems to match very well !.

Re your query wrt posting difficulties, I cannot speak for the new forum which may have diferent characteristics. However following my own occasional setbacks with the old forum nowadays I always save my intended post immediately before pressing "submit" (as I'm sure you meant to do). As with all websites with similar data input "forms", occasionally a glitch in "transmission" can cause it to not submit to forum successfully and as you say it's not fun to have to retype all over. Usually I just "copy" the text as if intending to paste it, then press "submit". However, if it's likely to be a long or time-consuming post, perhaps including new research findings, I recommend writing it out first elsewhere eg as a Word document, saving that to your pc, then copy & pasting the text into the forum. Then if the submit fails you can easily re submit from the saved master. OR, submit it in small bites, using the edit button to gradually add text to the original post.
I've never experienced my pc having an apparent timeout on the forum before but it may perhaps be possible with this new forum system.

Hope this helps, and thanks again for the interesting post.

William Vaughan b1848 Blakeney - Forest boy in the Scrubs (reply)

Delving deeper into Ancestry there are four possibles involving a William VAUGHAN:-

14th Oct 1862. Michaelmas Quarter Sessions at Gloucester.
Convicted of larceny. 3 months hard labour.

17th March 1868. Easter Quarter Sessions at Gloucester.
Convicted of larceny. 1 month hard labour.
Previous convictions noted - nil.

19th Oct 1875. Michaelmas Quarter Sessions at Gloucester.
Not Guilty of larceny after a previous conviction.

16th Dec 1876. Winter Gaol Delivery at Worcester.
Convicted of sheep stealing and former conviction of felony.
7 years penal servitude.

Some of these tie up with previous information. However, there are a lot of William VAUGHANs around and this source gives no information on age or residence so it's impossible to say it's the same person.

William Vaughan b1848 Blakeney - Forest boy in the Scrubs (reply)

Thanks for confirming what I was thinking - I've searched tinternet extensively for him under various name combinations etc but without any trace at all. This seemed odd seeing as it seems to my admittedly inexperienced eyes that most of not all the convict ships are very well documented on the many and various free access sites "down under". I saw several Wm Vaughans but none so late as this one.
Ditto I tried the Ancestry free search page without luck.

Andrew Vaughan b1828 Blakeney (reply)

Hi Helen/Bill
I based Andrews age on the Burial details that you already know about. Strangely I can find no Baptism details for him but I can for all his siblings.
Looking at the census's from 1841 to 1881 they all seem to agree on him being born 1831/1832 at Hewelsfield (except 1871 Monmouthshire, I think we can ignore that).
Helen how are you related to Andrew?.

Andrew Vaughan b18430 ish Blakeney (reply)

Hi Dave,

Andrew Vaughan married Emma Jones 12/06/1853.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a baptism record for Andrew Vaughan so I do not have a definate year of birth. His year of birth from various census could be about 1832 but his age at death in 1890, Bream as transcribed on this site was 66 so it could be anywhere between 1824 and 1832.

If you have further evidence please let me know.
