Thank you slowhands, I knew you'd come up with the most logical answer. I notice that a Mary Toomey married Thomas Barnard in the same year, at Churcham. And there is also a Richard Toomey, 1787 a base son of Mary - possibly the same Mary Toomey. I don't know what happened to Richard and I can't even prove that Benjamin's mother married Thomas Barnard.

Benjamin Toomey born between 1785 and 1797

Can anyone help me trace the birth of Benjamin Toomey?
He married Sarah Roberts in 1822 in Hempsted but had children in Hartpury. Unfortunately, he died in 1835, in Hartpury, aged 50 years, before census records began, so I haven't been able to find out exactly where he was born. I do know he was imprisoned in 1827 at the age of 30.
