It is always good to check out the witness names at any marriage for clues.... in this case the two witnesses were

James AMES and Sarah POWELL

all on FOD records

This couple (James AMES and Sarah POWELL) were married at Newland - 1 December 1810 - witnesses were Thos. AMES and Thos MORSE

Baptism at NEWLAND, James AMES, son of John & Mary - 11 June 1788

Marriage at Newland: John AMES, married Mary MORSE - 11 February 1783 - witnesses Thomas MORSE and Elizabeth CARTER
(B.T.'s states bride's surname as JONES)

Thank you for responding but my question is "is Anne Morse who married William Powell in 1810 actually Amy Morse who was born in 1787". Amy's name is spelled differently in various records -- Amy, Amey, Eme and I'm wondering if Anne might have been misread and should be Amy or any of the variant spellings. And, if not, is there a marriage record for Amy Morse and a Mr. Powell?

I am trying to find the maiden name of Amy ?. She was married, as the widow Powell, to Thomas Brown on 28th March 1815 in Newland and then to Thomas Bailey on 23 July 1825 in Newland. I suspect that her maiden name was Morse. At both her marriages a Morse was a witness. Thomas Morse witnessed the marriage to Thomas Brown and Samuel Morse the marriage to Thomas Bailey. Amey Morse baptised on March 25, 1787, the daughter of Thomas and Mary has brothers Thomas and Samuel.

The batismal record of James Powell, 21 April 1811, Newland, gives his parents at William Powell and Amy. A William Powell married Anne Morse on 23 September 1810, Newland. Could Anne Morse be the Amy I'm looking for?

I'd be very grateful if someone could help with this.
