I suppose I am convinced the line which I have, down from the 2 Rowland Prices of Ross is my paternal line. The family left Ross for Sandbach, Cheshire and then on south to London and on to Brixton, which is where I visited my paternal grandparents.

I will follow up your suggestions though to determine where Eliza was born.

You say Rowland Prices's mother was Mary Jenkins, so it does seem possible the baptism I found on FamilySearch is indeed his, I do hope so !
I hadn't realised his Marriage record was within this FoD site's PRs. Clearly and like so many in those days he didn't give his age, rest assured the transcriptions on this site include all the information available on the original PR. If it were a Gloucestershire record I'd expect it's image would now also be on the Ancestry site, but not sure wrt Herefordshire records.

Looking at HAINES marriages in Hay on FreeBMD, I wonder if these are her parents ? Unsure whether good or bad that both potential brides are Elizas !, I presume we're looking at Eliza DAVIES given the 1901 Census I posted yesterday.

I see this FoD site's PRs include a few hundred "Eliza Haines" records. Not suggesting any apply to your Eliza, but it does reaffirm that it's a very popular name within the "Haines" family.

Lots of bits are new to me so thank you again. Yes the Rowland Price 1814- 1877 (d in Sandbach, Cheshire) is the person I had decided was my line. Married 10/11/1833 but I do not have copy of his marriage Cert, just the FoD record which does not give his dob. His mother was Mary Jenkins b 1788.

Re the 1891 census, at that time Eliza was living with her son, Richard Price (aged 54) in 1 Prices Houses, Shrewsbury. Her birth place was given as Ledbury this time. So discrepancy of birth place whenever she was living in her later years (as a widow) with her sons.

I will investigate the Elisabeth Hayns born in Llanstephan, thank you. It will mean part of the branch I have been following might need redirecting but so be it.

I will also look at the Wills of Eliza and Rowland. I have found it quite significant to look at the witnesses of various weddings. Eliza and a James Haynes were witnesses at each others weddings so perhaps James was Eliza's bro. but all I can find is his marriage record.

I have only just found your message. So kind of you to reply. I wish I had spotted the message ages ago. Mea culpa.

Eliza was baptized in Ross on 24 Nov 1813 according to Ross Parish Records. (Altho some records state 1816 for her birth year.) Parents were William Haynes/Hains and Esther Baynham (1787 - 1853). They married in Ross on 27 June 1813, 6 mths before the baptism. Eliza married Rowland Price in Ross on 10/11/1833. What interests me enormously is that Census returns of 1851/61/71 state Eliza was born in Builth Wells. She was my GGGrandmother and I want to establish my bit of Welshness! Also the record for 1841 shows N for No, meaning Eliza was not born in the County of Herefordhire. I am also really interested in tracing William Hain's line but have drawn a blank. I have found the Baynham line --going way back on Ancestry trees. I have recently 09/03/17)been in touch with Sheila Leitch from Powys FH Socy who is trying to help me too. Fingers crossed.
