MILES/MOYLES/MAILS (reply)

This could be Henry

Baptised at Awre

Notes: Blakeney Chapel

21 Janry 1770

Henry MAILS

parents: William & Elizabeth (who appear to be the only MILES etc having children baptised in Awre)

On the 1841 Census: Henry is aged 75-79

----
Think you need to look at the Awre records

MOYLSE and MILES MOILS etc (use the Soundex)

e.g. Burial at Awre - 24 August 1825

Elizabeth MOYLSE - aged 84

---

On Gloucestershire Genealogical Database

There is a Will of William MAYLES of Awre 1784

Burial on records: at Awre: William MOYLSE aged 86 : 9 May 1784

MILES/MOYLES (reply)

On the 1851 cenus,

Henry MILES states he was born Blakeney, Woodside - and occupation: Sawyer

Looking for any MILES around the area nearer Henry's birth :

The Miles appear to be Non-conformist - but also go by the surnames MOYLES

e.g.

Marriage at Awre

29 August 1803

Richard MILES - Bachelor of this Parish
Sarah WAIT - Spinster, of this Parish

by banns

witnesses: Sarah FOXALL
Michasel WEBB (Parish) Clerk

Notes: BTs show Groom as Richard MOYLES and Bride as Sarah WAITE

This couples have

William MILES in 1808 - Parish: Awre
1827 Philip - (residence: Blakeney Woodside) - Parish Newnham, Blakeney, Tabernacle

---

Awre baptisms

1751 Richard MOYLES - parents: William & Sarah
1759 William MOYLES - parents: William & Elizabeth
1762 Thomas - parents: William & Elizabeth

Awre marriage at Awre

William MOYLES - 17 February 1759 to Elizabeth LEWIS

----

On the 1841 census for Newcastle Under Lyme

Henry MILES - 75-79
Hannah MILES - 65-69
John MILES - 25-29

Looking at Family Search : this couple had Sons: Joseph & John - and must have had a daughter i.e. on the 1851 census he has Robert CROOMER his Grandson with him.

? There is a Henry MILES witnessing two wedding in Newland - 27 and 28 November 1787 : John REED to Mary DREW and Philip YOUNG to Sarah BUTLER - not sure if its 'your' Henry
----

Assume Robert COOMER Grandson on the 1851 census parents were: George COOMER and Catharine MILES married 1827, Wolstanton, Staffordshire.

What other children did they have ? Looking for family names etc.

Henry Miles

Henry Miles, my 4th great grandfather, lived in 1851 in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffs., and states on that year's census that he was 93 years old, therefore born circa 1758. He also states that he was born in Blakeney, Gloucestershire. He married a Hannah Jackson in Newcastle in 1807 and was at that time a widower.
I have not been able to trace Henry's birth or baptism records, nor details of his first marriage which could have been in or near Blakeney.
If anyone can help, that would be much appreciated.
