The data should have been "accurate" for the night of the 7th April 1861 ; the Enumeartors books were written up at a latter date.

I was wondering - would they have conducted a census in the latter half of the year? I was looking at the 1861 census for another county/district and there was no date on it. I am looking for a death of an ancestor between 1856 and 1861 (he has died by the time the 1861 census was taken). Much to my surprise, there were only two "hits" in the freeBMD index - Sept 1859 and Sept 1861. While my first instinct is to order the 1859 death certificate, I do not want to rule out the 1861, if it is feasible.

Any suggestions? It is for another county, but you folks are so helpful and nice that I thought I would try here first.
