You both certainly have given me something to work on - it will take me a while to digest all this. If that James WHITTINGTON is 'mine' then that will make the third jailbird in my family!! The HALEs are from my Dad's side so I guess things might be evening up as the other two are on my Mum's and they were husband and wife. He went inside because he stole and she because she assaulted her husband!!

Last month we spent a week in the Forest of Dean and my mother and I had a day at the Gloucestershire Records Office. After searching through Anglican Church records and finding little trace of our HALE family, it crossed our minds whether they could be non-conformist, but as it always does, our time ran out and we had to make our way back to the cottage where we were staying leaving the non-conformaist records for another day.

Thank you again for the baptism information. Now we know which direction to follow. Pity that Lucy's maiden name was not recorded.

In the 1861 Census Henry and Lucy are at Lane End.

Henry & Lucy had the following children: Thomas c1856, Milson c1860, Maryann c1861, Isaac c1864, Rachel c1866, Samuel c1867, Fanny c1870 (my great grandmother), Enoch c1872, Henry c1874, Sydney c1878 and George c1879.

We have been unable to find Fanny HALE, my great grandmother's birth certificate. We were given the name WHITTINGTON by another researcher but have not been able to verify this. Searches for baptisms for Henry & Lucy's children have not brought any results. Has anyone come across these?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
