Way back, an Edward Hawkins married an Ann Bedoes at Awre when she was stated to be "of this parish" and he "of Newland" but perhaps that's because Awre was not in the extra-parochial parts.

The inner Forest was still extra parochial at that time. People used the churches they preferred on the periphery. My family lived in Sewdley/Soudleigh/Soudley during this period.

My great grandparents were married at St Peter's Newnham 1857, despite the fact that the nearest was St John's Cinderford consecrated 1842? My greatgrandfathers sister was married at St Paul's, Parkend 1850.

This was common practice.

Newnham seems the most likely.

The Record ID is 36335; Entry number 713. States their residence as Newland and Parish/Chapel as Newland. However, I found a thread on this forum that states the marriage was at Newnham.

Please, can anyone confirm which is the correct place for this marriage, Newland or Newham?
