Whitecliff Pottery (reply)

A pottery recorded at Whitecliff in 1720 (Footnote 61) was possibly that making casting pots for the nearby ironworks in 1803. (Footnote 62) The pottery, which employed 16 men and boys in 1851, (Footnote 63) continued in production in the early 1880s (Footnote 64) but was disused in 1898. (Footnote 65

Whitecliff Pottery

I am researching the Watts family who lived in Whitecliff and operated a Pottery from early 1800 to 1880. Two generations of family were involved - John Watts and his son, also John Watts. The younger John Watts had a large family, one of his daughters, Lucy, is my great grandmother, who married Enoch Drew and emigrated to Australia in 1884. (Lucy first married William White who died around 1882). I am looking for information on the Pottery, which was quite a large concern, at one stage employing 16 men and some boys. The Pottery was situated quite close to the Nags Head Inn. I would be grateful for any snippets of information regarding the family and the Pottery.
