William Henry Jones and Bessie Morse (reply)

Jim, I'm curious seeing the name Jones.

Only a week ago, my mother b.1918 mentioned that she had a great-grandmother named Jones (forename unremembered) living in Moseley Green, when she was a child in Pillowell.

I guess that would place Granny Jones pretty early in the 19th century.

UK mornings are generally fine for me

from UK Mid day onwards I see a steady decrease in response
UK evenings can be very slow.

Try narrowing the search to a limited number of years or registration district. i.e. searching over a 15 year period for all JONES in Gloucestershire is a "bad" idea

< Here endeth the lesson in how to suck eggs >

William Henry Jones and Bessie Morse (reply)

The family living at The Barracks in 1881 is most probably the one you seek as it adjoins Moseley Green.
Samuel Morse's occupation in 1901 Census is Coal Hewer but looking at Gloucestershire Pubs web site: http://www.easywell.co.uk/pubs/ you will find a Samuel Morse is listed as the publican at the Travellers Rest Blakeney New Road in 1903.

Assuming that William's father is Henry then this is the best match from the 1851 Census:
Piece Folio SchNo Town Surname Forename Relatn Marr Age Occupation County Place
2444 0007 023 Yorkley JONES William HD M 53 Coal Miner GLS West Dean
2444 0007 023 Yorkley JONES Susan WI M 51 - GLS West Dean
2444 0007 023 Yorkley JONES Richard SO U 21 Coal Miner GLS Parish of Newland
2444 0007 023 Yorkley JONES James SO U 16 Coal Miner GLS Parish of Newland
2444 0007 023 Yorkley JONES Phebe DA U 14 Servant at Home GLS Parish of Newland
2444 0007 023 Yorkley JONES Henry SO - 12 Coal Miner GLS Parish of Newland

No doubt Slowhands will contribute further/

William Henry Jones and Bessie Morse

Hello,
New to this list, but I've been around a bit (so to speak). The research I'm doing is actually my wife's tree. Her grandmother was Bessie Morse b1877 Old Furnace, East Dean. Bessie was the daughter of Samuel Morse c1856 Blakeney Hill & Mary Ann Green c1856 Awre.
William Henry Jones c1874 Moseley Green, his father was Henry Jones. Bessie & William were married 1898 at Viney Hill.
I've just got the marriage certificate and it states that Samuel Morse was a Publican. William & Henry Jones were Colliers. My question about William is that he was born Moseley Green, in the 1881 census there is a William Jones born West Dean and the address is Barracks,West Dean. Would this be Moseley Green William?. Another clue is that a witness at the marriage was a Margaret Jones and the Barracks Jones family had a daughter called Margaret(so did a lot of others I expect). Blakeney Hill/New Rd was the Morses area, in fact it still is as Bessie & William's son still lives in the same house. The Publican part is interesting, where was Samuel a publican in 1898. Any help would be great.
Regards
Jim
In a mild Cheltenham.
