Thomas JONES 1861 census (reply)

Hi Sylvia

I wonder if the address was "Mitcheldean lane End?" I seem to remember when looking at Oldmapsuk that for some reason the road leading to Broadwell? went under this name. All the roads seemed to be called lane end, because thats what they did, they stopped at the numerous mines and quarries around Coleford. But why a road in Coleford should be named Mitcheldean Lane is anyones guess. The road (Gloucester Road) does go on to Mitcheldean, the next village of any size.
