St. Mary de Lode, Gloucester

I wonder if anyone could verify this ...

I've been told that the parish church of St. Mary de Lode in Gloucester at one time gained a reputation for being a stranger's church, meaning that people would come from far and wide to get married because it was known that no awkward questions would be asked of them. The incumbants often turned a blind eye to things like being underage, parental permissions, pregnancy etc. Has anyone heard similar?
