Thank you so much Slowhands, that does make a great deal of difference!

I agree that the James Jones in the 1881 Census is probably his b.i.l and not Mary Ann's father! I also have a marriage at Mons. for a James Jones and Elizabeth Morgan. Now I just need to try and match this family with our Jones family of Hewelsfield, and with your help now this may be possible.

p.s.Place of Elizabeth's birth is Dingestow abt 3 Miles from Chapel Hill, so not too far from Hewelsfield, I have her marriage to James at Dingestow 1811.I just need James Jones' Mother and father, and although I have a series of records that lead to Tidenham I have, as yet, no proof. Thank you for the censuses they were a great help. He did not appear to have been baptised at Hewelsfield unless his record was illegible. So I will keep at it!

JONES Family Hewelsfield

I am looking for information regarding James Jones and his daughter Mary Ann Jones.James was born at Hewelsfield between 1801 and 1811, and he married Elizabeth Morgan about 1826. Mary Ann Jones was born 1827 and was baptised at Hewelsfield Parish Church 25 Feb. 1827. She married William Bird in 1852 and in the 1881 Census they are residing at Brockweir Common, with James Jones, born 1811, the relationship is given as Brother in Law to William Bird, but I think that this should be Father in Law.

As Mary Ann did not marry until 1852 I would like some help in finding her on the 1841 Census and the 1851 Census please. I looked at the index for the 1841 but the only Mary Ann I could find was one in Newent with a different father. ( Richard)

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated.
