John Evans who married Elizabeth White 1797 in Newland (reply)

Hi me again.

Thanks to everyone for the information of the parents of Harriet Evans who married William Wood in Awre 18 August 1827.

I was wondering if anyone could very kindly help me find the parents of Elizabeth White. From her marriage details she was a resident in Newland however there are so many records and I can not find out which baptism is for her. I think I have found her burial in Awre - Elizabeth Evans 28 June 1841.

Also if anyone could double check my research on John Evans as I do not want to log on my FTM wrong information. I believe John Evans was baptised 10 Jan 1773 and his parents were John Evans and 'Eliz'. I believe John's burial was 2 Feb 1826. I believe John Evans had a sister Harriot baptised 28 Dec 1779. It seems strange no other children. The only suitable record of John and Harriot's parents are John Evans married to Elizabeth Lewis in Newland 30 Jan 1771.

If anyone can help me track my ancestors further back I will be thrilled as it means a lot to me. Needless to say I will be giving this site a donation in due course as it has given me so much pleasure.

Thank you!
Erica

Parents of Harriet Evans who married William Wood in 1827 (reply)

Hi Jefff,

When you reply the message before is hidden, so I will try and answer your questions, however may not answer all your questions. Thank you for trying to help..

I found the marriage of John Evans to Elizabeth White on 14th November 1797. No age added for the bride or groom however they were both residents of Newland. It did surprise me as they both signed.

I found the following children for Elizabeth and John Evans.

George baptised in Awre on 24th May 1801
Edwin baptised in Awre on 29th April 1804
Harriot baptised in Awre 13th July 1808 and as per Mike she died 17 th February 1806
OUR Harrott was baptised in Awre 20th November 1808

I didn't find anymore children so very strange.

I found a John Evans baptised 10th January 1773 with parents John and Eliz in Newland.
I found burial for John Evans 2nd February 1826 in Awre aged 48. The age does not add up with the birth I found however I thought may be an error with his age.

I found a burial for Elizabeth Evans in Awre 28th June 1841 aged 69.
I tried to find a birth for Elizabeth White and we thought that the following two were the only ones possible.

1774 White William Betty Baptism Dymock
1770 White Thomas Sarah Baptism Maisemore.

I have not looked anywhere else, other than this site as I have only recently joined Ancestry.

Hope I have given you enough information.

Thank you.

Kind Regards,
Erica

Parents of Harriet Evans who married William Wood in 1827 (reply)

Hi Erica,
sorry but I havent read the whole thread. Please remind us where Elizabeth White lived her life as far as you know, presumably she's within the 1841 Census for starters, if so where ?. Are you following Mike's Awre birth suggestion for Harriet ?. Have you found a Marriage for Elizabeth White and John Evans ?. I ask as a quick look at the Burials on GlosBMD, as a starter, shows that Elizabeth EVANS/WHITE is quite a common name in the area at that time, I suspect this site's PRs will produce many more. Of the births you mention, the Dymock one seems reasonable given mother's name, yet Dymock -> Awre seems a lot less likely to me than Maisemore -> down the Severn ??
I'll try and help out later but please help us by quoting your findings & reasoning so far, thanks, Jeff.

I wonder if you can help with the birth date and parents of Elizabeth White.

I have found two possible baptisms for an Elizabeth White:

1774 - Parents William and Betty in Dymock
1770 - Parents Thomas and Sarah in Maisemore

I believe Elizabeth Evans ( nee White) burial was 28 June 1841

Parents of Harriet Evans who married William Wood in 1827 (reply)

Hi,

I am hoping that once again you can kindly help me.

Harriet Evans and William Wood were the parents of Thomas Wood. (Thomas Wood married Sarah Head as per other messages). William and Harriet married 18th August 1827. The witnesses were Sarah Wood and John Evans.

I am having trouble finding out who the parents were of Harriet (also spelt Harriett and Harriot). John and Ellinor Evans keep cropping up however I have no way of knowing if I have got Harriet's parents correct.

I would be very pleased if anyone could kindly help me find out who Harriet Evans parents were. I believe Harriet was born in 1811.

Kind Regards and thank you!

Hi Erica, I hope this helps.

Henry Woolford b 1808 married Susanna Head in 1831 Lydiard Millicent
There were six children, Susanna and Baby no 7 died 1841

Henry married Maria Head (Susanna's sister) Cinderford 1842

Sarah Head was born before her Aunt Susanna died so we can assume she was not Henry's

Maria and Henry had three more children Joseph, Samuel and Susan.

Maria died in 1850

Henry's marriage to Maria the birth of their three Children and Maria' death all took place between 1841 and 1851 which makes Census returns confusing

Susanna and Maria's Parents were John Grey Head b 1782 South Marston Wilts and Sarah Adams
