Slowhands - yet again, thanks for the info. I'm not sure I would have found Absolom and Mary on the 1841 census with that spelling.

Mary seems to have been a favourite too. John VAUGHAN married Mary BRADLEY in 1687, Richard VAUGHAN (1701) married Mary MORGAN in 1728, and Absolom (1772) married Mary BENNETT.

Just to add to the Vaughan/Bennett saga
Shirelyanne you may or may not know that 'your' Richard Vaughan (born 1701) parents were John Vaughan and Mary Bennett. Seems the Vaughan men had a penchant for the name Bennett!
I am also descended through Richard (1701) but through his son William (1748)which would be a brother to your Richard (1741)

I am sure that Bertha will sort this out as the acknowledged Vaughan expert, but to throw in my two pennys worth; I have a John Vaughan who married an Elizabeth Bennett in Ruardean 18.5.1762, witnesses James Bennett & Penny Beecham. This Elizabeth baptised Ruardean 29.8.1742 is the daughter of James Bennett & Elizabeth. John Vaughan & Elizabeth had 5 children including a Lettice baptised 2.7.1772 Ruardean. My connection is with Elizabeth's brother James Bennett, one of my 5 times great grandfathers baptised 29.8.1742 Ruardean who married Elizabeth Annetts in Ruardean 16.6.1758 and had 5 children including Jane who married John Marfell.

It is possible that Bertha can help me with another John Vaughan. Looking through my "Vaughan's" I noted another John Vaughan for whom I have no knowledge other than the fact that his daughter Elizabeth born Ruardean 1823 married George Ellis Philip Knight Trump 15.11.1845 Ruardean. My connection here is that their son Thomas married Dora Read, daughter of William Read & Selina Marfell. Thomas Trump has an interesting history as he was jailed for "accidently" shooting his brother, I have the Cinderford Mercury press cuttings if anyone is interested. Thomas emigrated to America with his cousin Oliver Turner - see Ed Molls Bar picture.

They appear to relate to real records rather than "member supplied" and they seem to "fit", both marriages are in the same parish, so.....

I'm another of the VAUGHAN distant cousins, and am descended from Richard (1701) and his son Richard (1741). Richard (1741) had a son called Absolom (1772) who married Mary ??. I am descended from their daughter, Letitia. I've found what I think is a record of Absolom and Mary's marriage on the IGI at Staunton By Monmouth on 4 Oct 1803 - can anyone confirm this?
Also, Mary's surname is BENNETT and there is a reference on this board to Absolom's brother John (1777) marrying Elizabeth BENNETT in the same year (1803).
