Trooper "Jack" Hawkins LANE 1891 Redmarley (reply)

Hi,
sadly Slowhands doesn't post on the forum any more, a great shame...
If you have access to a subscription website such as Ancestry, the best bet is to search his Army records, sadly at the mo I don't have a subscription (altho it can be access for free from publicl libraries). Altho' about 2/3 of the WW1 Service Record documents were lost during WW2, the vast majority of Medal Index cards survive and images are on Ancestry, and that will be marked "MM" etc for any medal awarded.
Alternatively, the newspapers would probably have reported it, but my search on the BNA website hasn't produced anything yet. Ditto the London Gazette site, altho past experience tells me that this can be a tricky site to search and probably needs more time.
https://www.thegazette.co.uk/

LATER UPDATE
