Hi,

I have a few leads on my Hughes tree dating back to about 1875, the only Hughes/Witts connection in my family was the marriage to my mother Hazel Witts to my father John Robert paul Hughes in 1979 in Birmingham, I'd like to find out more about my mothers mother Norah Elaine Witts (formally Morris) I don't seem to have any records to her parents etc, anyway, I will keep going and many thanks again for all your help!

have you tried searching the GlosBMD site, it's free and contains quite recent PRs especially Marriages, including Registry Office as well as Church.

Fabulous work, I've got enough to go on for a while, this is quite addictive, I've not gone to bed before 2.30am working on this, it's great, just got to work on my dads side, and his surname is 'Hughes' good luck with that!

From Left to Right. My Father John Hughes, Me (looking like a boy!), Bill Witts and Norah Witts, some time in the 70's in St Ives.

His year of birth might help :-) or any other clue .....

There are at least 7 John R HUGHES born in Warwickshire between 1940 and 1950
and over 60 born elsewhere in England in the same period

Sending for a copy of his marriage cert might give all the extra clues to get started

Hi There,

Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly with this, I believe that the William Frederick Witts on this is my Grandfather, the dates etc match, he died in Birmingham aged 68 from a heart attack.

His spouse, my grand mother Norah Witts (formally Morris) died at age 72 in 1988 and unfortunately their daughter Hazel Hughes (my mother) (formally Witts) is now gone in 1993 aged 48.

If true it seems they married out of wedlock as my mother was born in 1945! tut tut! Also it appears that william was married before not long before, I'm unaware of this or the reason for why so short lived.

I'm currently trying to build my family tree on the http://www.ancestry.co.uk website, you are more than welcome to see what I have found so far.

Unfortunately I don't have any immediate family alive, both parents are gone, I have no siblings/children and lost contact with any surviving Aunts/Uncles etc so for me to trace any family history is hard, it's not too bad on my fathers side as I have a few birth/death certificates.

So, as it stands so search goes cold after william frederick Witts and his wife Norah Elaine Witts , I would love to find any records of their parentage or siblings etc, I will try and upload a picture on here, failing that it will be in the 'Old photos' section.

hi There,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my family history, all I know so far is my grandparents william Witts and Norah Witts (maiden name Morris) lived in the Forest of dean during the 40's they had two daughters Hazel (born 1945) and Margaret and a boy which I don't know the name of, Margret went on to marry Alfred Lawton and Hazel married john Hughes in 1979, was wondering if anyone can trace the Witts family any further back, sorry so vague, i do have some pictures if needed.
