There appears to more than one set of Coroners Inquests held at the Gloucestershire Archives but you will need to contact them for the full details of what they have. The following is what I know of.

  • The Forest of Dean Inquests we have on the website are taken from "Minute Books" which are held by the Gloucestershire Archives. These Inquests cover the Forest of Dean area and are from 1868 to 1932 with a few missing years.

This project which was started by David Drinkwater is not yet completed and we are regularily adding more of these Inquest on the website.

  • The are other Inquests held at the Gloucestershire Archives which I believe are Records from the County Coroners, these include registers of inquests and inquest files but are not complete. Some records between 1722 to 1838 have been transcribed by Patsy McMillan and she kindly agreed to allow us to copy the ones that were relevant to the Forest of Dean and display them on our website.

These records you can browse by selecting Inquests in the Category drop down box of this forum. There are a 11 pages of these inquests, each page contains approximately 25 Inquests.
