How can I win when they keep changing the spelling of the surname

you just have to keep a very open mind - HALE, HAIL, HAILE, HAILES, HAILS etc

levels of literacy were not as high as today, records have been written down and transcribed, etc there are several points at which errors/ mis understanding can creep in :-)

It all part of the fun - honest !
