You are quite right about the reference to Charles Henry Davies. On checking I find that I completely misread the 1909 newspaper notice. I should have noted that it said he was formerly of the Railway Inn at the Lea. By at least mid-1909 he was at the New Inn, Ross. I shall amend my post.
