Thanks guys. Where are you pullin all this from? It appears I was mislead then about the Lydney connection? All I have are vague memories of things I was told as a little girl. All i know is, he was Wintour, and there are alot of them in the FoD. Unless we go way back and then moved around, endin up in Swansea.

Im very excited by all this.

I reckon it is definitely him.. but a look at the orignal may show that the 'n' on Winton could possibly be an 'r'?

Ah, am confused though over the name Winton as Daddo was definately a Wintour. The birth and death dates seem to add up as I was born in 75 and he died when I was around 2-3 yo. And I seem to remember his middle name being the same as my grans younger sister which I could not get my head around when I was little.

Hi Judith

The records I posted came from FreeBMD - you can use this link:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Ref: the numbers.

The first number is the Volume and the second number is the Page of the register where the marriage (or birth or death) is recorded.

You would need those numbers if you wanted to order a copy of a certificate from the General Register Office.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

I have found Wintours on this site (FoD), but not Cecil. I'm sure the cavalry will arrive soon and dig something up for you!

Could you explain to me what some of the numbers mean, i can understand the dates, but the other numbers?

This is wonderful, thankyou so much, I now finally have something to go on.

WINTOUR Cecil, Lydney

Hello all,

My name is Judith and im trying to trace my late mum's side of the family. My mum was a Wintour and the last of our family. I have no one to ask as both grandparents are deceased as well as my mum, and there are no other family members who can help.

My grandfather was called Cecil Roach, and he married my granny, Ivy Irene Roach, of Loughor, Swansea, they had a child named Joy (whose name I carry as a middle name) who died when sne was bout 3yo. They then later had my mum called Jill. They had no other children.

My lovely grandad passed away when i was about 3, in the late 70's yet i remember him vividly, especially his rich Gloucester accent. All I know is he possibly hailed from a farm in Lydney and I think he had brothers.

I'm afraid this is all I have to go on, but am desperate to know more as I am so very proud to be part of this line.

Here's to hoping someone can help me.
