Then I guess it may be down to the "you hear what you expect to hear" syndrome, Giles would be a very rare christian name in Wales - approx 60 in 1851 census ( against 2,000 in the England 1851 census). Whereas James ....25,000 in Wales ( vs 700,000 in England).
